Three Ways Cards Get In
However you capture knowledge, it ends up as a deck ready to study.
Ask an AI agent
Connect Claude or any MCP-compatible agent. Whatever you just learned becomes cards — without leaving the conversation.
Import a Notion table
Point at any table or database. Every row becomes a card, every column becomes a field.
Build your own
A fast editor for when you want full control — type a front, type a back, done.
Columns Become Fields. Fields Become Cards.
No reformatting your notes. The structure you already have in Notion is the structure of your cards.
Your table headers become card fields
Import any Notion table — or a full database, where you pick the properties to use. One row, one card.
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| aprender | to learn | Me encanta aprender |
| repasar | to review | Repaso cada mañana |
3 columns → 3 fields · 2 rows → 2 cards
A card template lays out every card
Templates use {{Field}} placeholders. Design the layout once — every row is formatted the same way.
aprender
to learn — Me encanta aprender
repasar
to review — Repaso cada mañana
Reviews at the Moment You Need Them

Frequently Asked Questions
What is spaced repetition and how does it work?
Spaced repetition schedules each review right before you would forget, so every review counts. Etch uses the SM-2 algorithm: rate a card Again, Good, or Easy, and the next review is scheduled automatically — from minutes to months apart.
How do AI agents create flashcards for me?
Etch has an MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration. Connect it to Claude or any MCP-compatible AI agent, and the agent can create decks and add flashcards directly — for example, "save what I just learned as flashcards" at the end of a study conversation. Cards appear in your app on the next sync.
How do I import flashcards from Notion?
Connect your Notion account and pick any page containing a table, or a full database. Each row becomes one card and each column becomes a card field — so a Word | Meaning | Example table turns into cards with those three fields, laid out by a card template you control.
Is Etch free to use?
Studying is free forever: unlimited decks, unlimited cards, and full spaced repetition on every plan. The free plan includes 50 Notion card imports and 10 AI images per month. Pro unlocks AI agent connections, unlimited Notion imports, and 500 AI images per month.
Can I study on multiple devices?
Yes. Sign in with Google and your flashcards sync across all your devices automatically. The app is local-first, so studying works even with a flaky connection and syncs when you are back online.
